Mental health
A mental illness or mental health condition can affect the way people think, feel, behave, or interact with others. There are many types of mental illnesses/health conditions that impact people’s lives in different ways. Some examples of mental health conditions include depression, anxiety, obsessive compulsive disorder, schizophrenia and addiction. Mental health conditions can often co-occur with neurodivergence and other conditions such as chronic illness.
The Equality Act states that you have a disability if you have a physical or mental impairment that has a substantial, adverse, and long-term effect on your ability to carry out normal day-to-day activities. This includes mental health conditions.
The Disability Team at Glasgow Caledonian offers various support to students with mental health conditions which is outlined below. The support available from the disability team also aims to ensure that students can easily access other support services available throughout the University.
