Beyond BBV research programme
Drawing a line under HIV and Hep C for the Common Good
GCU is a world leader in HIV and Hepatitis C elimination research, strengthened by award-winning collaborative working, our mission for the Common Good and a commitment to the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals.
GCU has launched a dedicated research programme, Beyond BBV (blood borne viruses), to combat HIV and Hepatitis C for the Common Good.
The Beyond BBV research programme – led by world-leading blood borne virus experts at GCU – coincides with the unveiling by the Scottish Government of Scotland’s HIV transmission elimination proposal to end HIV transmission by 2030. The GCU-hosted research programme brings together leaders from research, public health, clinical practice and policy.
Professors Claudia Estcourt and Sharon Hutchinson will be driving the programme alongside GCU Honorary Professors Rak Nandwani, a Non-Executive Director of Public Health Scotland, and Nicola Steedman, the Scottish Government’s Deputy Chief Medical Officer.
GCU’s investment in this dedicated research programme, Beyond BBV, will help yield new insights, working to consolidate and enhance research leadership at a key point in the elimination journey.
Drawing on successful partnership working between academia, public health, clinical and civil society groups – demonstrated by the impact of HIV PrEP and Hepatitis C DAA treatment – Beyond BBV aims to produce world-leading research that can be readily translated into national policy and public health action, to deliver population-level sustained health improvement.
