Transport and parking
arrow_forward
Glasgow Caledonian has a relatively flat campus and all buildings are in close proximity of each other. Most teaching areas are accessible by lift/stair lift and entrances to all buildings have automatic doors and ramps where applicable.
More detailed information regarding physical features of the campus and access to individual buildings can be found on the AccessAble website .
If you require further information about access in and around campus, the Disability Team will be happy to assist you in identifying convenient routes between and within buildings.
As the campus is very centrally located, with good public transport links , students are generally discouraged from bringing their cars to GCU. However, individuals who have a Blue Badge can apply for a parking permit and are exempt from charges. They are however required to provide proof of their Blue Badge to the Transport Office located on the ground floor of the George Moore building room X016 to be issued a parking permit. This will allow them to park on University property and occupy a disabled users' parking bay.
The bays are located at various buildings around campus. At the Britannia and behind the Sir Alex Ferguson Library being the largest. If you are intending to park via the North Hanover car park entrance you will require a fob key. Please note that parking bays are not allocated to specific permit holders and that they are not always available at places and times required throughout the day. For more information please contact the Disability Team.

Glasgow Caledonian is committed to providing both formal and informal learning spaces which meet the needs of all of our students. Those students looking for a quiet space to study or relax alone might try any of the following spots on campus:
Level 4 of the Sir Alex Ferguson Library This level of the library is restricted for silent studying and is usually not as busy as the other floors in the library. A height- adjustable table (with a hand-crank mechanism) is situated on the left-hand wall when entering from the stairwell.
Private study rooms Bookable private study rooms are available on the ground floor of the Sir Alex Ferguson Library. These are available to any student and can be booked via the Library desk .
Campus Life Lounge Located on level 1 of the George Moore building, the Campus Life Lounge often provides a relatively quiet study and relaxation space for students. Please be aware that events, which can be noisy and busy, are occasionally hosted in this space.
Enhanced acoustics and induction loops
arrow_forward
Some of the main lecture theatres on campus are fitted with a fixed Induction Loop system, which can be used by any student with a hearing aid which is fitted with a ‘T’ switch.
Glasgow Caledonian can provide portable hearing loop systems for deaf or hard of hearing students. To use these, you can contact the Disability Team to discuss borrowing one of these devices, which comprise both a microphone and a receiver. Portable hearing loop systems can connect directly with a hearing aid, or in some cases can connect to a mobile phone or conventional headphones.
GCU is in the process of replacing a legacy campus-wide hearing loop system, and work is underway to implement a new system soon. This system will be a more inclusive, fully featured hearing solution for staff, students, and visitors alike. If you are interested in contributing to the development and implementation of this system with your feedback or opinions, please contact the Disability Team and we can invite you to pilot and test a new hearing system.
Learning Development Centre
arrow_forward
Within each of the three Academic Schools at GCU you will find a Learning Development Centre , staffed by Academic Development Tutors who provide one to one and group study support. The range of activities and provisions made by each of the Centres varies slightly, as the support is tailored to reflect the nature and demands of the academic programmes within each School.
The Disability Team can support referral of students to the Learning Development Centres. Support from the Centre may be considered particularly important to their academic success due to the impact of disability or specific learning difficulty. In such cases, the student may be asked to provide their consent for the Disability Team to share information with the Learning Development Centre regarding the nature and impact of their difficulties.
Each Learning Development Centre has a Tutor who acts as Disability Liaison, receiving all initial formal referrals for their School from the Disability Team. Each Centre is staffed with Tutors who have a wealth of experience in providing academic development support to university students and in assisting a diverse range of learners, including students with dyslexia.
