Autism information session for applicants
Glasgow Caledonian recognises that starting university can be an exciting but stressful time, while understanding the additional challenges and anxieties that autistic applicants and their families may experience. The Disability team offers a session that supports incoming autistic students and their families as they prepare to start University.
The session is delivered over the summer (usually early July) as an informal seminar, in a small group setting, at our Glasgow Campus.
The session aims to:
- Provide a smoother transition for autistic students starting University
- Address any concerns/questions from family/friends/carers about the support available at Glasgow Caledonian
- Encourage autistic students to engage with support services early.
Some of the topics that will be covered in the session are:
- Introduction to support services available at the University
- Discussion around support that can be provided by the wider wellbeing service, other support services, and your academic department
- Top tips for family/friends on how to help someone prepare for starting university.
There will be an opportunity for questions and discussion during the session. Please note that the applicant must attend the session alongside any support, which is intended to be a general discussion to aid in the transition to University.
Applicants who disclosed autism in their course application form will be automatically invited to the session. For more information, you can email disabilityintake@gcu.ac.uk.
We look forward to meeting you.
