What is Socialeyes?
‘Socialeyes’ is a programme developed by the National Autistic Society to facilitate social skills and social understanding for people on the autism spectrum.
The Disability team runs a Socialeyes programme for GCU students who have a diagnosis, or who would identify with a diagnosis, on the autism spectrum.
The programme aims to provide students with strategies to feel more comfortable in social situations including making friends, group work situations, placements and more. The programme addresses eight different aspects of social interaction:
Starting a conversation
Eye contact
Personal space
Taking turns in a conversation
Keeping on topic
Talking about interests
Sensitive topics
Ending conversations.
The programme is delivered as a series of eight structured workshops, each lasting 90 minutes.
