Super staff provide super students with Superdrug challenge
A GCU student has opened up on her experience as part of a live industry project with one of Britain’s leading health and beauty retailers.
Second year International Tourism and Events Management student Ellie Cunningham and others on her programme have teamed up with Superdrug as part of their “Creating and Designing Experiences” module.
The students have been tasked with providing a creative and innovative hypothetical event or experience for a new Superdrug store based in Glasgow’s city centre.
They will present their ideas to lecturers and the Head of Marketing for the company - with an overall winner selected.
Ellie’s group decided to look close to home in finding inspiration for the design of the store and they’ve also been thinking about what they would like to feature within the walls of their very own Superdrug.
She explained: “There’s five of us in our group and we’re basing it off the H&M store on Buchanan Street. It has three floors and we’re going to focus on a different theme across each.
On the ground level the focus will be on inclusivity and diversity. We’ve got an empowerment photo shoot we’re going to do, with each customer getting the opportunity to write a positive word on their face and friends face using a Superdrug lipstick. If people don’t want to do that, then they would have the opportunity to write down a message of positivity on a separate backdrop.
Elsewhere, the first floor is going to be looking at products being vegan and cruelty free and the second floor is all about being environmentally friendly and sustainable.”
Ellie also explained why she was delighted to get involved in the project – especially during the current times.
She said: “Initially we didn’t know it would be Superdrug we were working with and when I found out I was super excited. I love makeup and skin care and when I heard we were designing it for a store launch it made me even more excited because that’s something I could totally see myself doing in the future.”
She added: “I didn’t think this year would be practical in any way with everything that’s going on. We’re at home and not getting to see anyone however we’ve still had the chance to apply what we’re learning.
Our lecturer has been brilliant at helping us through it and he seems so passionate about what he does, which definitely makes the whole experience so much better - I’ve just really enjoyed the whole thing.”
