A group of GCU students have come together to start their own student-led online magazine.

“Hidden Tales” is an online magazine which features stories from students in GCU, with the main goal being to inspire others.

The magazine wants to ensure that students are being recognised for their achievements and successes, which is what inspired the creation of the online publication. The students behind the magazine all come from different disciplines, allowing them to apply their skills from their courses.

However, there are no set roles within the team. Each student takes a turn by contributing to the magazine in a different way, such as designing, writing articles and sub-editing.

The “Hidden Tales” team (who operate anonymously) told us why they decided to create the magazine.

They said: “We were talking to a lot of students who did some really cool things and realised that they weren't being given the proper recognition for it.

A lot of students are doing really interesting things, which made us think "that really inspires me and could inspire others too". We wanted to share that positive feeling amongst students and share these stories to hopefully inspire others.

We wanted to create that sense of community with students and allow them to think "wow, we have amazing students walking in the same halls with us on campus" and to encourage them to be a part of that if they wanted to.  We are all final year students, so we're not sure what will happen once we finish but we openly encourage anyone who is interested to take on the magazine once we graduate.

When we first started the magazine, we thought about featuring the team on our magazine and social media but we decided to take a step back and think about what's really important. Our motto is “It's a magazine for students, by students, to inspire students" which emphasises the fact that it's not about us, but about the students that we write about.”
