Creative Digital Design student’s logo is chosen to represent Caledonian Creates
A GCU student’s animation has been chosen as the winner of this year’s Caledonian Creates logo competition – a challenge set each year to final year students studying Digital Design.
Fourth year Digital Design (Graphics) student Mariusz Pfeifer created the winning design which will be showcased through the Caledonian Creates Instagram page.
Caledonian Creates is an annual celebration of work from the University’s creative disciplines; designed to help showcase the work of students and staff from courses such as Digital Design, Computer Games and 3D Animation.
Final year Digital Design (Graphics) students are tasked with creating a new logo to represent Caledonian Creates as part of their Portfolio module, which gets updated each year to align with up-to-date design trends. This year, the brief required students to create an animated version of the logo.
Mariusz was delighted to have created the winning design. He said: “When I found out that my logo was selected to represent Caledonian Creates, I felt proud but also happy that my work might grab someone's attention to the Caledonian Creates Instagram profile, where all of my classmates will be showcasing their amazing work.”
Through this project, Mariusz had the opportunity to put his knowledge of animation techniques into practise. He said: “I decided to use 3D animation software to learn new techniques and expand my knowledge in this area. By using available sources, I was able to create a scene which represented the Digital Design programme.”
He added: “During my research process, I tried to answer the question of ‘What surrounds us as digital designers?’. Our final year in university was delivered online which is why we spent more time than usual interacting with machines.
The short animation represents the determination and hard work of all students that, despite the hardships, will graduate this year and become qualify digital designers.”
