A GCU student is starting the year off in style – by selling out a comedy show taking place on campus!

Fourth year International Events student Chrissy Ross is bringing his ‘Work in Progress’ show (organised by fellow events student Lizzie Kelly) to Re:Union Bar and Grill on Friday, January 31 and will be joined by comedian and actress Rachel Jackson for a night guaranteed to provide plenty of laughs.

With brand new tour “Laughter Riot” launching in April, Chrissy admits that the night will give him the perfect opportunity to test out new content - while also providing benefits to the university.

He said: “Those coming along can definitely expect fresh material. They’ll be getting bits that could either become a signature sketch or should never be uttered again, there really is no in-between.

There will be a lot of new people coming to the campus, who won’t have been to the Re-Union bar before. I think that can only be a benefit because we want this place getting the recognition it deserves for being a great venue.”

Over the last two years Chrissy has been supporting comedian Gary Faulds, which rounded off in November with a sell-out show at the SEC Armadillo in front of 3,000 people.

He’s also had the opportunity to combine his love for comedy and events at GCU and acknowledges that his time here will hugely impact his future aspirations.

Chrissy, who is vice-president of GCU’s Events Society, explained: “This programme has allowed me to see the actual practical elements of running events. When I graduate, I plan on helping to organise larger scale comedy festivals rather than just small one-off comedy gigs for my friends. I would never have been able to contemplate doing anything like that if I hadn’t studied at GCU.”
