Summary of content

This module introduces students to a wide range of systemic conditions and their pharmaceutical management. An understanding of pharmacokinetics & pharmacodynamics of systemically administered medicines in normal and patients with disease allows an understanding of interactions between systemic medications and ocular structures as well as an understanding of potential side effects of ocular drugs on other organs a prerequisite for safe and efficient independent prescribing. The module introduces legal and ethical aspects of the professional autonomy of an independent prescriber and local and national policies impacting on prescribing practice.
