Summary of content
This work-based learning module is designed to support staff who are new to teaching and supporting student learning in higher education. This module introduces fundamental skills, knowledge and values associated with learning, teaching and academic practice, and aims to support participants to engage with practices based on a knowledge of active learning, participation and equality of opportunity for learners, in addition to exploring their own approach to academic practice.
Participants will gain knowledge and skills to support their engagement with designing, planning and delivering inclusive and contextually relevant learning activities related to their own specific work base and role. A pedagogically informed understanding of active learning will be used as the basis for exploring student engagement with, and responses to student learning activities employed within a variety of environments.
Participants will explore their own response to active learning through engagement with the module, and use this to inform their academic practice and professional development. Further to gaining theoretical grounding in reflective practice, participants will be able to identify their development needs in relation to supporting student learning and teaching.
