Students and teaching

Taking action, together

We run a wide range of programmes that embed sustainability and help educate our leaders of tomorrow, including a joint Erasmus Masters on Sustainable Climate Change Management, MSc in Climate JusticeMSc in Environmental Management and an MS in Sustainable Fashion.

Many of our undergraduate courses have issues of climate justice at their heart, including:

  • BA (Hons) Business Management and BA (Hons) International Business, which deliver Carbon Literacy Training to students as part of a module covering Sustainability, Corporate Social and Ethics. On these two courses, a second module – Managing Sustainable Business Excellence covers environmental management issues, requiring students to complete a report on environmental impact and the role of ISO14001.
  • BA (Hons) Media and Communication is the only higher education programme in Scotland signed up to the BAFTA albert sustainability scheme.

Our students are also leading the way with a dedicated Sustainable Development Goals Society and GCU Extinction Rebellion group established.

We are a member of the Clinton Global Initiative University Network, set up by former US President Bill Clinton, so our students can turn their ideas of how to make a better world into practical action.

We have a SmartTravel group of student advisors to help those travelling to our campuses to walk, cycle or use largely decarbonised transport.

Our inspirational graduates

We have alumni all over the world who have gone on to achieve great things. We are putting the spotlight on our graduates helping to tackle the damaging effects of climate change and encouraging sustainability.

‌BA (Hons) Marketing graduate Kathleen MacLean

Kathleen is Head of Growth at EV Energy Group and manages a platform enabling electric vehicle charging to make it greener, cheaper and simpler for customers. “Our app automatically aligns EV charging to start at the most optimal time, either when renewable energy is available or by avoiding peak strain times on the grid. My role at EV is to bring our app to the masses! Growing by 13K by July 2022 and currently acquiring 1,000 new EV drivers a week.

I truly believe the work at EV Energy is going to change the world."
