Multi-factor authentication (MFA) is a security system that requires users to provide more than one method of verification to access an account. This adds a significant extra layer of security making it much harder for unauthorised users to hack into your account. Traditionally accounts are secured with something you know such as a username and password. MFA introduces the concept of something you have such as a mobile phone to increase security as your account can no longer be accessed simply with your username and password.
