GenAI for students
GCU believes that GenAI should be viewed as a tool to augment human capabilities and enhance efficiency, rather than a replacement for professional judgement, critical thinking, creativity, or human decision-making. This applies to everyone at the University, not just students.
Recognising both the opportunities and challenges presented by GenAI, the University’s approach is grounded in our values of integrity, creativity, responsibility and confidence, and guided by the Principles for the use of Generative AI (GenAI) at Glasgow Caledonian University.
In practice, the appropriate use of GenAI is highly contextual and it will depend on what you are studying. This could vary from module to module, so it is important that you check each of your modules in GCU Learn to see whether the use of AI is allowed.
To provide clarity for students on the use of GenAI in assessments, all assessments at GCU will fall under one of three categories:
- G – AI Guided
- N – AI Not Permitted
- S – Secure Conditions
