Umran

International Tourism and Events Management

One road trip changed my life

“Driving ambulances through war zones with the chance to help people directly – it’s one of the best things I’ve ever done.”

It’s hard to imagine what it’s like

Driving through a war zone is not an experience I’ll ever be able to forget. Each time I do it, whether it’s in Ukraine or Syria, the suffering is hard to witness. I’m motivated to help by seeing how direct action can positively affect one person. Those small connections then get bigger, that one person has a chance to continue school, start a family, grow and be happy.

I always want to do more

Looking to inspirational people is what helps drive me and you’re surrounded by so many here at GCU. Millions of people throughout the world just want the chance at a good life and if driving just one ambulance to the Gaza Strip or Ukraine helps in some small way, then I want to drive a thousand ambulances. I’m motivated to do more, care more and help more, everyone deserves a chance at a happy and safe life.

It’s something you can feel

I love putting together events and fundraising and that feeling of everyone being together. After my course I’m going to create even bigger and better events and drive even more ambulances. Everyone from my lecturers to classmates and friends are so supportive; there’s just a feeling that everyone is working towards a common good in their own way. It’s given me the best grounding for my career.
