Gaming helped save my life

"Positive interactions can have far-reaching ripple effects that you don’t even see but help the community in so many ways.”

In the right environment, people can flourish

From a young age, I saw and felt how the wrong environment can make things hard for individuals. Growing up in Italy there was a lot of pressure to “act like a man” and not talk about mental health problems. It made me fight with my own mind and it was hard work. But it’s pushed me to where I am now; a positive change in environment has opened so many possibilities and has made me thankful for my experiences in life so far. At GCU there’s a real sense of community and creativity from the class labs to the canteen, it’s the right environment for me.

I'm afraid of failure

I want to use that fear positively; to make me work that much harder to achieve good things for myself and other people. I’ve found that my course in computer game development helps me to harness this failure through a creative curiosity. Failing and failing again is part of the game, you must do it to succeed, and that has helped me as much in my studies as it has in real life.

I want to create environments with soul

I’m fascinated by people in different environments and their motivations for behaving in certain ways and I want that to be a part of the games I create. Humans have interacted through storytelling since the beginning of time, and I see my course as an extension of that. I am surrounded by so many people with different stories and different lives; we’re creating these beautiful worlds that reflect that diversity.

“We’re all connected in so many different ways and in the right environment those connections can create beautiful things.”
