Let yourself believe you can do it

"Being a nurse and studying for a PhD has enabled me to live a fulfilling if not incredibly busy life. I wouldn’t change it for the world.”

There's a drive to do what's best

What really stands out about GCU is that you’re taught by real-world professionals with real-world experiences. Your academic research has direct real-life applications, so you’re not stuck in a box somewhere wondering what the connections are. You’re connected to the University, to the city and everyone around you in everything you do.

Nursing is in my blood

My mum’s a nurse and my family is from Glasgow, but it didn’t mean I always knew I was going to end up here. I’m very thankful I did though. I feel like I can be myself and my studies, my work, my social life, all of it just fits together. It was important to me to find a course that pioneered world-class research with real-world scenarios, as I’m active in the community now with my nursing.

Your experiences make you who you are

Sometimes things come up in life that can make studying really hard, and I’ve had first-hand experience of how incredibly difficult it can be to keep going. It was the nurses that really helped me and my family through and it’s part of the reason why I went into nursing. My PhD course is full of the most supportive people you can imagine.

“Being helped by others and helping others has formed a huge part of who I am as an individual and that’s celebrated at GCU.”
