Why cycle?

Cycling is one of the cheapest and quickest ways of getting around Glasgow, and more and more people are getting on their two wheels. Here are six reasons why you should cycle:

Work is closer than you think

Approximately 47% of the working population live just five miles or less from their place of work. At a leisurely pace, that’s only 30 minutes of pedalling from your front door.

Cycling is safer than gardening

Cycling in Britain is relatively safe. Only one cyclist is killed on Britain’s roads for every 27 million miles travelled by cycle – that’s the equivalent to cycling around the world over 1,000 times (Department for Transport - Road accidents and safety statistics (2013) ). Statistically, you're more likely to be injured in an hour of gardening than in an hour of cycling.

It’s good for your health

Cycling is one of the easiest ways to fit exercise into your daily routine.

Less stress

People who cycle to work are less likely to be frustrated by their commute than those travelling by car or public transport. Cycling home is also a great way to de-stress at the end of a busy day.

Saves you money

Bikes cost very little to run, because they’re fuelled by tea and toast!

It’s fun!
