GCU Connect
GCU Connect is part of Glasgow Caledonian's Widening Participation and Outreach department. We work in partnership with 31 secondary schools across Glasgow and its surrounding areas. Our aim is to inspire and support educational pathways beyond school for senior phase pupils. Our activities showcase the breadth of opportunities in higher education, clearly demonstrating their progression routes; to help inform pupils about the diverse range of careers open to them.
Our Programmes
Meet Our Students: October - December
This in-school workshop engages the whole S5 year group. During the workshop, small groups of pupils talk with a selection of our students, from a range of courses and backgrounds. Pupils will hear about why our students chose their course and can ask questions about pathways and all aspects university life.
Induction: June and August
Our S6 Induction is a team building workshop, available to the whole year group, in early June and late August. This workshop is a fun, fast-paced look at a broad range of future careers. Pupils take part in challenges, showcasing relevant skills for career destinations. We also highlight the importance of thoroughly researching UCAS options and pathways to career destinations at this key stage.
UCAS and personal statements: September and October
In this classroom or assembly style presentation, pupils will hear all about the UCAS process. Our information, advice and guidance will equip pupils with everything they need to know when starting their UCAS application.
Personal Statement Advice: October - December
Personal statement support is available to all pupils submitting an application Glasgow Caledonian as one of their five UCAS choices. Pupils can email a copy of their personal statement content to our team at GCU Connect and we will provide helpful, subject specific feedback on their current drafts.
Information Sessions: October - March
Parents and carers can sign up to our online information evenings. These evenings are designed for parents and carers of university-bound pupils. In these brief presentations throughout the calendar year, we provide insights and guidance on all things UCAS from key dates to university finance and scholarships.
