Overview

A Civil Engineer helps to make some of the most innovative structures in the world - the infrastructure for transport, energy, industry and commerce is the result of civil engineering.

The course, which is accredited by the Joint Board of Moderators (ICE, IStructE, CIHT, IHE) and Chartered Institution of Water and Environmental Management (CIWEM) is designed to produce graduates who are as comfortable with the engineering and technical aspects of the industry as they are with contracts management, planning and environmental protection.

Site visits are organised throughout the course and have recently included the M74 motorway extension, the White Cart flood prevention scheme, new Forth Crossing and Whitelee Wind Farm. You may also attend a five-day study trip to Europe, linked to one of our Erasmus university partners.

Graduate prospects

Employment opportunities exist with Civil Engineering Contractors and Consultants engaged in road building, quarrying, construction of large buildings and bridge building. Local authority positions also exist in planning and the administration of major networks. Our graduates can take advantage of opportunities within sustainable development and engineering for resilience.
