Setting up eduroam

Installation for your device must be carried out when on Campus. Please follow these steps:

  1. When on GCU campus, search for and connect to the Wireless network called gcu-wifi-setup.
  2. Open a web browser and the following web page with connection instructions will open up: http://www.gcu.ac.uk/staff/it/wirelessaccess/gcu-setup-wifi
  3. Click on the link to eduroam CAT, select ‘download your eduroam installer’ then select Glasgow Caledonian University. The site will detect your operating system and automatically download the appropriate installer.
  4. Run the eduroam Auto Installer.
  5. Enter your username in the following format:
    Staff - username@gcu.ac.uk and your current domain password.
    Students - username@caledonian.ac.uk and your current domain password.
  6. Press Start Setup. Once setup completes, press Exit.
Android devices
  1. Please go to the Google Play Store and download and Open the eduroam CAT App.
    You will be prompted to Allow eduroamCat to access this device’s location? this is a personal choice

  2. Press the back arrow ( < ) on the upper left of the screen

  3. While connected do your mobile data or a wifi hotspot, click the link shown under the PROFILES tab (https://cat.eduroam.org)
    1. Tap Click here to download your eduroam installer
    2. Begin to type Glasgow Caledonian University
    3. Tap the Glasgow Caledonian University button above the search box
      You will be presented to install the eduroam certificate for your phone
      A popup advising to perform the steps above before continuing. To advance, Press Continue
    4. Tap Open to enter your downloads folder

  4. Click the eduroam-android_8_10-GCU-GC… file you downloaded on the above step
    1. Tap Allow when presented with Allow eduroamCAT to access photos, media and other files on your device?
    2. Tap Install button to install the certificate you downloaded above
    3. Tap Yes to confirm the install

  5. You will be shown information regarding the certificate. If all is ticked apart from the (optional)
    1. In the Username field type your email address
      {username}@caledonian.ac.uk if you are a student
      {username}@gcu.ac.uk if you are a staff member
      and enter your password.
    2. Tap Install

You will now be connected to eduroam

iOS Devices (iPads, iPhones)
  1. From the Home page, tap Settings.
  2. In Settings, tap Wi-Fi.
  3. In Wi-FI Networks make sure the Wi-Fi slider is ON.
  4. Under Choose a Network... tap eduroam (anywhere but the right arrow).
  5. In the Username field type email address
    {username}@caledonian.ac.uk if you are a student
    {username}@gcu.ac.uk if you are a staff member
    and enter your password.
  6. Tap the Join button.
  7. You will receive a Certificate screen with a certificate from eduroam.gcu.ac.uk, tap Accept.

You should now be connected to eduroam.

Mac OS X Devices (Laptops)
  1. Your Mac should automatically detect eduroam and any other available networks, and prompt you for your username and password.
  2. In the Username field type your email address
    {username}@caledonian.ac.uk
     if you are a student
    {username}@gcu.ac.uk if you are a staff member

You should be connected to the eduroam Wireless Network.

Windows Devices
  1. Click the Wireless icon in the System Tray.
  2. Select eduroam.
  3. Click the Connect button; you will be prompted to enter your Username and Password.
  4. Enter your Username
    {username}@caledonian.ac.uk if you are a student
    {username}@gcu.ac.uk if you are a staff member
    and enter your password.
  5. Click Connect.

You should now be connected to the eduroam wireless network.

Chrome Devices
  1. Switch on your Chromebook
  2. Select your language and keyboard language from the top two menus
  3. In the third menu select eduroam
  4. In EAP method select PEAP
  5. In Phase 2 authentication select MSCHAPv2
  6. Leave Server CA certificate as Default
  7. In Identity type your email address
    {username}@caledonian.ac.uk if you are a student
    {username}@gcu.ac.uk if you are a staff member
    and enter your password.
  8. Leave Anonymous identity as blank
  9. Ensure the Save identity and password option is checked and click Connect
  10. Once enabled, click Continue

You are now connected to the eduroam wireless network.
