Estranged Students

Are you a current GCU student or applicant who is estranged from their family?

An estranged student is someone who is studying without the support of their immediate family. This is often due to a breakdown in family relationships, and individuals in this position may have no contact at all with their family, or sporadic and conflicting contact.

At Glasgow Caledonian University, we understand the additional difficulties of studying without the support of a family network. We are proud to have signed the Stand Alone pledge, to show our commitment to supporting estranged students. We have put the following supports in place to help you access GCU and maintain your place when studying here, including the opportunity to access a free accommodation scholarship with the Unite Foundation.

Please get in touch if you would like more information on the support available for estranged students at GCU. Our named contacts for estranged students are Rachel Hyslop and James Moohan, who can be contacted via email estrangedstudents@gcu.ac.uk
