Students and staff have a ball at Physiotherapy charity night

GCU’s Physiotherapy Society recently held a Charity Ball, bringing students and lecturers together to raise money for an amputee charity.

130 students and five lecturers gathered at Sloans Bar in Glasgow on February 5, to help generate funds for Finding Your Feet . The society chose the charity at the start of the academic year through a Twitter poll and will reveal their final total raised in the coming months.

The night featured a ceilidh and an awards ceremony, recognising the success of those in attendance from across all four year groups.

Third year student Chris Milligan explained more around the idea of the event. He said: “Last year we ran a ceilidh however everyone decided that it would be great to have a bigger night - that’s why we added in the awards part and took it into the city centre.

It made sense for us to have staff and students in attendance as we are really close as a programme overall.”

Fellow third year student and society member, Erin Barnett spoke of her delight at picking up an award on the night and the overall benefits of the event to the Physiotherapy programme.

She said: “I’m obviously completely honoured to pick up the “Keen Bean” award! It was a mix of students and lecturers who selected the winners and it was amazing to hear all the positivity everyone had – we’re all still talking about what a great night it was.”

Erin added: “One of our key focuses as a society is to try and bring everyone closer together – I think this has been the perfect way of doing that.

Once we go into the working world it’s highly likely we’ll be crossing paths with each other, so it’s great to have contacts in place and create that community.”
