Meet The Officer: Olivia Hall, Vice President for the School of Computing, Engineering and the Built Environment
Newly appointed Vice President of SCEBE Olivia Hall has now started her post as Full Time Officer, after being elected in the 2021 Student’s Association elections.
We spoke to Olivia about her plans as Full Time Officer and about her love for chocolate cake!
Firstly, how do you feel about being elected as VP SCEBE?
“I’m thrilled to have been elected. It was a really interesting campaign this year with it being completely online but I’m glad my message managed to get through to students.”
What aspect of the role excites you the most?
“I’m looking forward to making positive changes to the student experience and helping students have the best experience they can have at GCU.”
What will you bring to the role of VP SCEBE?
“I studied at GSBS so I’m completely new to SCEBE, but having met with the team I’m excited to learn more. At first, I was nervous to be working with a new school, but I’m hoping that going in with fresh eyes and a new perspective can bring some positive changes to SCEBE.”
What did you study at GCU?
“I recently graduated from Media and Communication as part of GSBS.”
What do you miss most about life at GCU pre COVID-19?
“I miss being able to sit around the campus with friends. Whether I was in the library, in a lecture, or sitting on the Radio Caley couch, I miss the social aspect the most. Even though I’m now no longer a student, I’m looking forward to (hopefully) getting to work on campus during my term and meeting my new colleagues.”
What did you always want to be when you grew up?
“As a child I always wanted to work in television (which is why I went on to study Media). I have such a huge passion for writing and throughout my time at GCU I’ve been writing small screenplays and short stories. I also wanted to be a mermaid but I don’t think that one is quite as realistic a goal.”
Favourite film/TV show?
“My favourite film is probably About Time. As weird as it sounds, I love films that can give me a good cry and no matter how many times I watch it, I’ll always sob at the beach scene.”
Favourite food?
“Chocolate cake. This sounds weird but I love to heat it up in the microwave so it melts (try it and thank me later!)”
If you could live anywhere in the world, where would you live and why?
“I would live in the country. I grew up in the outskirts of Glasgow and being so close to the city centre while also living amongst so much greenery and wildlife was so calming and beautiful. It’s nice to feel you’re somewhere quiet, but at the same time I’d need a city nearby so I didn’t feel stuck.”
