Marketing student in the running for prestigious award
A GCU student could be set to represent the university at a national awards ceremony.
Fourth year International Marketing student Rebecca McCrosson has been selected as one of 14 students through to the next stage to be crowned Student of the Year at the 2020 Marketing Society Scotland STAR Awards.
She was encouraged to nominate herself by her lecturer, Dr Elaine Ritch and will now join others at an “Apprentice Day” on March 12 - which will see judges whittling down nominees to three finalists for the main event in June.
Rebecca, who is President of GCU’s Marketing Society, said: “I was really chuffed to find out I’d got through to the next stage!
I received an email to say I’d been picked and that’s definitely came as a bit of a shock now that I’ve seen the other nominees. Most universities have two or three students however I’m the only one from GCU, so that’s a big honour.”
She added: “The university has been great for me as I’ve had the opportunity to volunteer, get a job on campus and also start the Marketing Society - I’m really thankful for all the support I’ve had.”
Having witnessed first-hand the benefits of getting involved in extra-curricular activities, Rebecca is keen to encourage other students to make the most of their university experience.
She explained: “If students hear of an opportunity then they should just go for it. It would be easy to just ignore emails from lecturers however they have a lot of great contacts and could benefit your career massively in the long-run – there’s nothing to lose.”
