A GCU student has become GCU’s first Grads In Games Ambassador and will use his role to help fellow students find a graduate job in the video game industry.

Third year Computer Games (Design) student Stefan Fisher discovered the ambassador role when he attended a number of Grads In Games events and decided to join their newsletter, where the Grads In Games Ambassador role was advertised.

Grads In Games is a non-for-profit organisation which focuses on helping students seek employment within the computer games industry; through hosting events, workshops and providing helpful resources.

Knowing how much he enjoyed engaging with Grad In Games, Stefan knew he had to apply. He said: “I first heard about Grads In Games through my lecturer, Hamid Homatash. He would send emails out to game development students about any Grads In Games events that were happening.

I was quite interested in the events and would regularly attend, which led me to sign up to their email notifications because they were always very useful and informative. I then found out through one of their newsletter emails that they were starting a Student Ambassador programme.

I decided to apply to the programme because I was interested in the extra career support and opportunities they had to offer and to also help spread awareness of them.”

The Grads In Games Student Ambassador programme, which was launched earlier this year, was an opportunity that Stefan knew he had to get involved with. He said: “I was really glad that I took the opportunity to sign up for it as soon as I seen it.

It feels great being able to provide awareness of their activities to help any student at GCU that is interested in a career in the games industry, as a lot of students weren’t aware of Grads In Games and the help that they can offer.”

After only working as a Grads I Games Ambassador for a couple of months, Stefan encourages other students to apply for the role in future. He said: “I would highly recommend applying to be a Grads In Games Ambassador! You get the opportunity to be invited to specific events for networking with people in the industry and advice on your portfolio, CV and LinkedIn profile.

The Grads In Games team also provide you with personalised 1-on-1 CV and portfolio review support, and there’s the opportunity to receive prizes and rewards (studio merchandise, games etc.) It’s also great volunteering experience that you can add to your CV!”
