SCEBE PhD student selected as winner for first virtual “3 Minute Thesis” competition
GCU has held its sixth 3 Minute Thesis competition – a challenge which invites post-graduate research students to present their work to a non-specialist audience.
SCEBE based PhD student Nichola Renwick, who presented her findings on the topic “How do you solve a problem like Charcot Foot?” was presented as one of the winners of the competition alongside Mubeen Mahmood.
Nichola was delighted to have been selected as a winner. She said: “This was the first time I had had a chance to present any results from my project so to do that and come out winning a competition was fantastic.”
Due to the current pandemic, the competition was held virtually for the first time this year. Nichola felt that this was a benefit despite the change in circumstances. She said: “Having the competition held virtually was a really fun experience and it allowed for all the presenters to reach a wider audience.
It also was great as it meant that friends and family were able to watch the live stream and see all the wonderful presentations.”
Nichola highlight encourages other research students to take part in the future. She said: “I would definitely recommend other post-graduate research students to take part.
It really helped me to re-gain perspective on my PhD project by allowing me to take a step back and see the whole picture and how my research fits into a clinical setting.”
