Say hi to your GCU Student Life team: Ross Clark

Ross discussed his role at GCU and gave an insight into his likes and dislikes

You’ve seen the social media posts and read the articles, but now it’s your chance to meet the team behind GCU Student Life.

Next up is Ross Clark:

What is your job role?

I’m a Student Communications and Engagement Assistant.

What does a typical day look like for you?

A typical day involves interviewing students and sharing their stories. That might be a student who has achieved something academically or personally - whether that’s speaking at a conference, running a marathon, raising money for charity, launching a business venture, or anything else they’re proud of.

If you have a story you’d like to share, please do get in touch with the GCU Student Newsroom - we’d love to hear from you.

What’s your favourite thing about working at GCU?

I really enjoy hearing students’ stories - how they came to study at GCU, what their goals are for the future, and where they are in their journey right now. I’m quite nosy as well, so I like hearing about their hobbies, pets, and what they get up to outside university!

What did you study at university?

I studied Sports Journalism at the University of the West of Scotland in Ayr between 2014 and 2018. I originally chose it because I enjoyed history and modern studies at school, and I loved football, so it seemed like a good fit - and it’s led me here.

What’s one interesting fact about yourself?

On my third driving lesson, I went around a roundabout the wrong way. My instructor told me to go right, and I took that very literally!

If you were a drink, what would you be and why?

I’d say water because I’m quite a practical person. Some people might think that’s boring, but it’s reliable and adaptable - sometimes plain, sometimes flavoured, sometimes sparkling with a bit of fizz.

This or That

Writing or filming?
Writing.

Instagram or TikTok?
Instagram - I actually don’t have TikTok.

Planning content or posting on the day?
Posting on the day. I prefer getting things done in the moment.

Coffee-fuelled shift or snack-fuelled shift?
Both. I only started drinking coffee in my early twenties, but I couldn’t go back now and snacks are always good.

Working behind the scenes or being on camera?
I’ve done a lot of videos, but I prefer keeping the focus on the students and letting them be the ones on camera.

Final message from Ross:

Believe and you will achieve.”
