Say hi to your GCU Student Life team: Lucy Rodgers
You’ve seen the social media posts and read the articles, but now it’s your chance to meet the team behind GCU Student Life.
We start with Lucy Rodgers:
What’s your job role?
I am a Student Communications Assistant!
Often mistaken as a student role but I promise you, I left being a student behind in 2025!
What does a typical day look like for you?
A tough question to answer because every day is different! One day I could be scheduling many posts for the social media accounts and the next I am interviewing students to write articles for the student newsroom or filming content. That’s what I love about this job – no two days are the same.
What’s your favourite thing about working at GCU?
Very cliché but honestly, it’s the people. My team are great and we genuinely have fun doing our jobs – I used to worry about leaving university and going into a full-time role but this is better than I could’ve expected! It makes such a difference when you are friends with the people you work with. I also love being involved in student initiatives and seeing how much the staff care behind the scenes!
What did you study at university?
I studied BA (Hons) Multimedia Journalism right here at GCU! I loved my course but I knew near the end that I fancied going down a media and communications role – it just so happens that I hit the jackpot and can basically do both. I love to write positive student stories – it makes all the difference.
What’s one interesting fact about yourself?
I am a big football fan – I will be watching a football match then straight after, I’m turning Love Island on! I also have a blog dedicated to relating tea to mental health problems and solutions (It’s called ‘Just your cup of tea’).
If you were a drink, what would you be and why?
On the back of the last answer, I would be a cup of tea! I cannot handle coffee but tea is perfect for me – honestly it’s more like a friend.
