Students recognised by acclaimed professional body for their academic achievements
A group of GCU students attended a prestigious gala dinner in November in recognition of their academic performance and contribution to their degree programme.
Six Finance, Investment and Risk students were sponsored to attend the Insurance and Actuarial Society of Glasgow’s Annual Dinner - a black tie affair with over 600 guests.
Fourth year student Vanessa Ciniltani was also awarded CII Financial Services Student of the Year 2019 at the dinner and was honoured to receive the recognition.
She said: “It’s an incredible honour, couldn’t be happier! I’m very passionate about my degree and it really motivates me seeing my efforts being recognised by experienced professionals.
Students joining such professional bodies gain invaluable industry exposure, for example in the areas of insurance, personal finance etc. They often organise formative events, as well as networking evenings in which students can participate. I believe making the most out of these opportunities can really help with one’s career development.
Personally, I think GCU has great connections with the local financial sector. The professional bodies have really helped me to understand what skills are needed in the workplace and what career options are available for me.”
The Insurance and Actuarial Society of Glasgow (IASG) is a professional body for those studying and working in the finance, investment and risk sectors. Members of the society have access to a wide range of opportunities - such as seminars, revision courses, local examination centres, mentoring initiatives as well as social and networking activities.
