Summary of content

This module introduces students to digital and specialist skills required to practise in a variety of professional roles. Teaching will include an introduction to mobile journalism skills using the latest mobile hardware and apps to produce and distribute multimedia content anywhere, any time, while weekly workshops will prepare students for the NCTJ Essential Journalism exam in April or May. Other timetabled classes will be used for specialised journalism assignments: students will undertake specific, demanding reporting assignments such as court reporting, political coverage, business/financial reports, investigative journalism and international reporting; followed by the option to specialise finally in areas such as arts, sports, or business. This variety of challenges will also enable students to have a range of 'real world' stories for their NCTJ e-Portfolio irrespective of what they may obtain from work experience.
In addition, a series of lectures will be given in the OFCOM code of conduct for broadcasters, followed by an online scenario-based test taken on campus; this also serves to meet a requirement of BJTC accreditation.
