Summary of content
From long form podcasts to the shortest Tiktok videos, via popular TV formats and radio documentaries, fresh ideas and gripping stories are at the heart of all successful media even in the unscripted arena, and with the rise of AI taking on more mundane tasks, originality, innovation and creativity are key for careers in the media industries.
This module will explore a range of theories and paradigms relating to creativity, creative practice and storytelling structures including Jungian theory with its concepts of archetypes and the individuation process. Theory will be put into practice through a range of experiential workshops to build confidence and resilience around the process of generating and developing creative ideas for unscripted content, finding the hook and telling the story.
The module does not include sessions explicitly labelled as EDI, however, development of ideas to an industry credible point has to take account of best industry practice, and where relevant, even statutory regulation and policy. Thus EDI issues by necessity are woven through questions such as how content will serve the target audience (which requires an understanding of the diversity of audiences, especially international ones), the importance of EDI in areas like casting decisions or other ethical considerations in areas of Health and Safety, and the wellbeing of participants and crew, which are required by commissioners.
