Summary of content

This module aims to provide postgraduate journalism students with an introduction to all the essential technical skills required for producing journalism across digital, radio and TV platforms. Students will learn the skills from experienced practitioner tutors and lecturers in regular practical workshops each week - radio, TV, mobile journalism, social media & presentation. Additional directed independent learning of these skills will be encouraged by means of recommended regular student-centred, audio recording, filming and audio and video editing sessions during timetabled periods when equipment will be designated as available to this module. Assessment will be by individual production of sample packages. On satisfactory completion of the module, students will be able to proceed to second trimester modules which involve the weekly or daily integration of journalistic newsgathering and writing skills (from MMN823601 Reporting) with these production techniques to produce final editions, bulletins, packages, podcasts and web pages, e.g. in the module MMN823271 Multimedia Newsdays.
