Summary of content

Globally contextualised, this module develops a critical appreciation of organisational change adopting the lenses of responsible leadership, corporate social responsibility, and the stakeholder perspective for shared value creation through change; with consideration of the human psychology for successful implementation. In doing so, the module considers multiple perspectives of change ranging from the traditional to emerging alternatives drawing on theory and practice, and using case examples of international organisations to aid global awareness of students represented in the SfL. Through critical holistic appreciation of the complexity of change, the module is aimed at enabling students to better respond to, manage and lead organisational change in their future careers as HR professionals, people managers and change leaders. This aligns with SfL employability enhancement agenda.

The learning commences with an overview of the current disruptive external environment and the growing demand for the adoption of the stakeholder perspective in organisations; linked to Corporate Social Responsibility, the United Nations’ Principles for Responsible Management Education (PRME) and its Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), with a specific focus on Goal No.4: Quality Education, Goal No.8: Decent Work and Economic Growth and Goal No. 12 Responsible Consumption and Production. Such context setting enables accentuating the centrality of change in contemporary organisations, in particular, the importance of agility and dynamic capability inducing strategic change whilst underscoring the significance and complexities of leading, managing and responding to change in an ethical and socially responsible manner.

Subsequently, the module explores forms of, and approaches to, change. This provides an appropriate platform to explore other key related issues such as organisational and national culture, stakeholder influence and implications, and the need for ethical responsible leadership in change. To
