Summary of content

This module equips students with increased knowledge and critical understanding of the theoretical and research foundations of occupational therapy practice. Emphasising the integration of conceptual models and frames of reference, students will critically explore how these guide assessment, intervention planning, and evaluation in diverse practice contexts. Students will develop and justify occupation-focused, evidence-based intervention plans tailored to the needs of individuals, groups, and communities. Through advanced literature searching, critical appraisal, and synthesis of current research, students will strengthen their ability to apply evidence in real-world practice. The module also focuses on the selection and evaluation of appropriate outcome measures, enabling students to demonstrate and evidence the transformative potential of occupation in promoting health, wellbeing, and participation. On successful completion of this module, students will be able to integrate theoretical frameworks, research evidence, and clinical reasoning to design, implement, and evaluate interventions that are contextually relevant and person-centred.
