Summary of content

This theory/practice based module provides experienced nurses the opportunity to integrate a range of contemporary theories and strategies into advancing district nursing practice. The module aims to promote the development of a senior practitioner/district nursing charge nurse with the ability to implement innovation and change leading integrated community teams to deliver the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) (2018) Future Nurse: Standards of proficiency for registered nurses.

The module introduces key themes which drive advancing district nursing practice are underpinned by leadership theory and models, The NMC (2001) specialist practitioner qualification community (SPQ) outcomes, the Queens Nursing Institute (QNI)/Queens Nursing Institute Scotland (QNIS) (2015) voluntary standards and the CNO (Scotland) (2018) paper 3 Transforming nursing, midwifery and health professions roles for the senior practitioner/district nurse, form the basis for practice learning for this module.

In line with NMC (2001) practice requirements, students will, with guidance from a Practice supervisor and assessor, undertake 272 hours of advancing district nursing practice. This will encompass a range of activities depending on student's individual learning needs and requirements.
