Summary of content The module is designed to advance the understanding of the pharmacology of ocular therapeutic drugs and their application in the management of anterior eye disease and Glaucoma. It introduces students to a critical assessment of available optometric and medical strategies of ocular disease within an informed and flexible approach taking patients special needs, beliefs and preferences into consideration. The module further introduces the concepts of evidence-based practice within the framework of clinical governance.

Learning outcomes arrow_forward On successful completion of this module, the students should be able to:- 1. Demonstrate an understanding of the principal signs and symptoms likely to be associated with various types of Glaucoma and to conduct appropriate ophthalmic investigations 2. Recognise the presence of Glaucoma-related eye disease, make a differential diagnosis and make decisions on the appropriate management strategies, including non-pharmacological & pharmacological treatment, shared management and referral. 3. Demonstrate an ability to develop and document a management plan for various anterior ocular diseases and Glaucoma independently or, where appropriate, within the context of a prescribing partnership 4. Demonstrate an ability to critically evaluate sources of information, advice and decision support in prescribing practice, taking into account current evidence based practice 5. Demonstrates an understanding of clinical governance 6. Demonstrate an understanding of relevant management guidelines and appropriate referral procedures. 7. Demonstrate an understanding of the main concepts relevant to communication and interaction with other health care professionals pertinent to the management of abnormal ocular conditions and eye diseases
