Summary of content

This module will develop and enhance understanding and critical evaluation of the pathogenesis, current and advancing diagnosis, monitoring and treatment of an array of metabolic and vascular diseases. This will include obesity and obesity-associated diseases including non-alcoholic fatty liver disease and type 2 diabetes mellitus. The link between these disorders and cancer development, such as liver and pancreatic cancer will be investigated. Current knowledge on the pathogenesis of Type 1 diabetes and advances in screening and management including advance in stem cell therapies and regenerative medicine explored. The module will also evaluate current and advancing knowledge regarding the acute and chronic vascular and non-vascular complications of diabetes, underlying mechanisms, diagnosis and managements will be examined. Genetic inborn errors of metabolism and lipid metabolism, as well as current and developing screening and management approaches for lipids will be investigated.
