Summary of content

This optional module explores the relationship between gender and both the substantive law and the legal profession. This will involve examining gender and the legal profession itself. This will include a focus on the early women lawyers, the changing demographics of the legal profession in 20th century, and the gender issues in the profession today. The module will also critically consider how the substantive law has responded to gender issues, including issues such as sexual violence domestic abuse employment rights and reproductive rights. Through exploring the relationship between gender and the profession and the substantive law, students will have the opportunity to critically reflect on the achievements and failures of the legal system in relation to gender issues.
