Summary of content This module offers students the opportunity to apply and refine their occupational therapy skills through a structured, supervised placement. It focuses on enhancing adaptability, cultural competence, and innovative practice. Students are expected to demonstrate increased autonomy in assessment and intervention, engage with service users from varied backgrounds, and contribute to service development through a dedicated project. The module encourages critical reflection on the role of occupational therapy in a range of contexts, supports interprofessional collaboration, and promotes the integration of theory, evidence, and reasoning into practice.

Teaching / learning strategy arrow_forward The teaching and learning strategy is designed to support students in developing flexibility, cultural awareness, and innovative thinking within diverse practice environments. Through placement induction a combination of lecture material, tutorials, seminars and practical sessions will be undertaken to explore the influences on occupational therapy in underrepresented or emerging contexts and skills in project management. During placement, students working in pairs and/or groups, engage in experiential learning through supervised practice, typically with remote or off-site supervision. They are encouraged and supported to take initiative in adapting occupational therapy approaches to meet the needs of varied populations, through a project focus. Reflective practice is embedded through supervision, peer learning, and structured self-assessment. Continuous assessment with formative feedback during placement will guide students toward confident, ethical, and context-sensitive practice. Summative assessment via practice educators’ evaluation, will assess students’ ability to meet learning outcomes.
