Summary of content This module will develop decision-making skills and understanding of professional responsibilities in line with the expectations of professional and regulatory bodies. Frameworks for professional reasoning, ethical theories and concepts of ethical practice such as professional boundaries, scope of practice, autonomy, consent, confidentiality, equality, diversity and inclusion will be explored. This module will synthesise the knowledge and skills students have acquired to date and combine this with the values, behaviours and knowledge to be able to recognise ethical issues and dilemmas, decide on an ethical course of action and justify professional decisions within the context of different practice environments.

Learning outcomes arrow_forward On successful completion of this module, students should be able to: 1. Teaching / learning strategy arrow_forward A variety of learning and teaching approaches will be used within this module to support the development of knowledge, understanding, and skills. Lectures will be utilised to introduce and explore core topics and stimulate critical thinking and discussion. Tutorials will complement the lectures and provide students with the opportunity to deepen their understanding and consolidate their learning through engagement with a range of interactive activities e.g. discussions, peer collaboration to explore theories and concepts within real world case scenarios. Co-operative learning will be used to promote active engagement with the material. Students will be encouraged to draw upon prior learning, personal and placement experience, and contextual knowledge to enhance their contributions and reflections. Independent learning will be supported via the University’s virtual learning environment (GCU Learn), where a variety of digital resources will be made available to extend and consolidate learning beyond the classroom. A range of formative learning activities will be embedded throughout the module to clarify assessment expectations, encourage self-evaluation, and build confidence in working towards the learning outcomes. Learning activities and delivery methods will be undertaken predominantly in person, with online components, as appropriate, and will be determined by the Module Leader in accordance with university guidelines and module requirements.
