Summary of content

Students will be introduced to the actual experience of interprofessional teamwork in health and social care through the use of authentic simulation assisted scenarios. The module will introduce students to the wider knowledge base of professional identity, professional culture and human factors. The module will facilitate the application of these concepts to their simulated experience as well as preparing them for transferring this knowledge to the real world. It will enable the exploration of barriers and facilitators related to interprofessional team-working such as culture and identity. Students will be introduced to various leadership theories and styles as well as key aspects and influences on patient and service user safety.

The students will have the opportunity to experience scenarios from their own professional perspective as well as that of others. In doing so, students will develop their knowledge and understanding of the different roles, responsibilities, expertise and collaborative practice within the interprofessional health and social work team. The simulated scenarios will address real-world professional practice situations where interprofessional teamwork and collaboration is essential.
