Summary of content

This module introduces students to a range of instruments and techniques used to assess the structure and function of the eyes and visual system. Through a series of lectures, tutorials and structured practical sessions, students will learn both the theory and practical application of a range of instruments and techniques commonly used in clinical practice. The module will further consider how appropriate methods of examination may be selected, and how the results from these may be recorded and interpreted in the context of an ocular examination. Building on students’ foundational knowledge of the anatomy and physiology of the eye and visual system, the teaching strategy encourages a systematic approach to the examination of the ocular structures, with careful integration of the relevant theory and practice.
