Summary of content

This module provides an introduction to the theory and practice of Teeline Shorthand, an essential core skill for the occupation of journalism, and required both by accrediting bodies such as the NCTJ and most newspaper employers, and broadcasters such as Sky and recommended by the BBC and BJTC but also of great professional use in other occupations in which accurate note-taking is vital, such as the Law, Government and Public Administration, and Public Relations. Trimester A will deliver most of the core theory up to approximately 50wpm, and Trimester B will develop the theory further and work on bringing students' speed up to the recognised minimum certified speed levels of 60, 70 or 80wpm.
GSBS will continue to use the advancement of GCU Learn as a blended learning tool through its teaching and learning as well as through engagement with students. GSBS will ensure that all modules are GCU Learn enabled and with the support of the Learning Technologists at the cutting edge of development of online materials. Academic staff and the Learning Technologists will continue to work together to develop and operate all modules on GCULearn to ensure student support and information sharing.

Students are provided with formative and summative feedback via a variety of mechanisms. Feedback on coursework is provided within 3 working weeks of submission.
