Summary of content

This level 1 module introduces the student to industrial garment producton, machinery, methods and practices and aims to develop the basics of sewing constructon techniques through studio practice.
An understanding of the 5 main component parts of garment construction industrial machinery thread type needle type seam classifcations stitch classifcations and their suitability to fabric choices for a 'fit for purpose' outcome will be developed.
This knowledge and understanding will be applied in a variety of industrial garment construction techniques in practical classes.
Fabric knowledge will be further developed from the IT module through the recogniton of suitable fabrics and qualities which effect garment shape and construction.
In additon this module examines relevant quality issues within the fashion industry.
PRME - The principles of responsible management will be adopted within this module through the use of ethically sourced materials in the producton of samples where possible. By demonstratng a socially responsible attude in professional practice.
