Summary of content

This module provides a general introduction to criminology, criminal justice and policing by focusing on key issues and institutions involved in understanding and responding to crime.

It provides an opportunity for students to develop a critical approach to understanding how society defines and responds to crime by considering how crime is socially constructed socially controlled represented in the media measured policed punished, and prevented. It also introduces the study of law and its relevance to criminology and related topics, such as policing.

In doing so it aligns with the PRME principles by developing student capabilities to work in an inclusive and sustainable global economy raising awareness of social responsibility in an effective learning environment and fostering an ability to engage in critical dialogue.
