Summary of content

The module will introduce the student to the role of the Child and Young Person’s Nurse in contemporary healthcare. An overview of key concepts is included which will enable students to gain a knowledge and understanding of the holistic needs of children young
people and their families / carers. It will also enable the student to become aware of the importance of working as part of an interprofessional and multi-disciplinary team in partnership with the child ,young person and their families/carers. An emphasis on child and family centred care is embedded, considering, ethical, legal, social and cultural
perspectives. Students will develop confidence in taking responsibility for their own wellbeing and professional development.
The module also contains a practice learning experience. Theoretical concepts will be applied to practice to develop knowledge and understanding. Within this module students will undertake practice hours as part of the hours required for the programme which is stipulated in the NMC standards for the pre-registration nursing programme.
