Summary of content

In this module, students will be introduced to the key theoretical and practical aspects of how the eye functions as an optical system. Through a series of lectures and accompanying tutorials, students will learn the optical principles of image formation and refractive correction of the eye. The module will also explore the aetiology, signs, and symptoms of ametropia, as well as strategies that can be used in its correction. In practical sessions, students will investigate the various factors that may affect vision and will develop foundational clinical skills for assessing a patient’s visual and refractive status. Finally, students will be introduced to some of the fundamental concepts that explain how the two eyes function together to achieve binocular single vision and the fundamental concepts and characteristics associated with ocular misalignment.
