SHE level 7
SCQF credit points 20
ECTS credit points 10
Module code M1B530594
Module Leader Niall Strang
School School of Health and Life Sciences
Subject Vision Sciences
Trimester A (September start)

Summary of content

The aim of this module is to allow students to develop a knowledge and understanding of the fundamental principles of geometrical and physical optics. Through a series of lectures, tutorials, and laboratory-based practical sessions, students will study the nature and behaviour of light and will be introduced to the concepts of refraction, reflection, diffraction and polarisation. Students will learn how to apply these concepts to the study of optical systems and will explore their relevance to clinical practice. Practical sessions will allow students to gain skills in data acquisition and handling.
