GCNYC Fair Fashion Center Features on Sustainability Panel
On Thursday, September 20th 2018, GCNYC Vice President and Founder of the Fair Fashion Center, Cara Smyth, spoke on the annual fall alumni panel for the YMA Fashion Scholarship Fund. This year’s topic centered around sustainability.
Alongside Ms Smyth on the panel were: Amy Hall (VP & Director of Social Consciousness at Eileen Fisher), Marissa Pagnani McGowan (GVP of Corporate Responsibility at PVH) and Wendy Waugh (SVP Merchandising and Development at Theory).
The industry experts on the panel gave their own definitions of sustainability, addressed the necessity of sustainability being integrated throughout fashion’s supply chain, and stressed the importance of brands striving for both sustainability and profitability at the same time.
The panellists concluded with acknowledging that every small change is a step in the right direction and that while positive impact can take time, it is definitely not impossible.
